sunday 4th September 2016 Gibson makes sure of County Cup progress for Wild Boar

Gibson makes sure of County Cup progress for Wild Boar
Ryan Gibson was Houghton Wild Boar All-Stars’ hero as they won through from the preliminary round of the Durham County Sunday Cup in a 6-3 home win against Darlington RA Stephenson Street Garage.
Houghton got off to a poor start and were 2-0 down after only 15 minutes. However, they soon rallied round and Liam McKitten, Karl Anderson, Craig Fletcher and Liam Lusk all scored to secure a 4-2 half-time lead.
Darlington went close to scoring on a few occasions in the second half, then Gibson, who had never scored for Wild Boar before, came off the bench for the last 20 minutes to make the game safe.
On 75 minutes, he hammered the ball into the roof of the net after Lusk pulled the ball back from the by-line to kill off any hope of a Darlington fightback.
Philip Thompson’s strike made it six before the visitors hit their third consolation.
Pelton Crown edged through 1-0 at home to Spennymoor Voltigeur.
Reece Mitchell and Dean Stewart were denied by outstanding saves before Crown finally made the breakthrough late on.
They were awarded a free-kick 35 yards out and Liam Mitchell lined himself up and smashed a fierce strike into the top left hand corner, leaving the keeper helpless.
Ouston Cherry Tree overwhelmed Consett Finnians 10-1, never looking back after the recalled Reece Hutchinson fired a 15-second opener from Clarkson’s pass.
Hutchinson went on to set up three goals, and complete a hat-trick. Clarkson added a treble, with Biles, Fryer and a brilliant 35-yard lob from Ryan Drummond completing the scoring.
Elsewhere, Houghton Town romped home 8-0 at Hartlepool Engineers SC and Houghton Chilton Lodge defeated Bishop Auckland Bay Horse 3-1, while New Brancepeth WMC saw off Silksworth Catholic Club 4-1.
Quarrington Hill edged past Seaton Carew S&SC 3-2, but Witton Gilbert Club were beaten 6-3 by Sunderland side O’Brien Waste Recycling.
Langley Park won through 4-1 on penalties after a 2-2 draw with Sunderland Railway Club, Ushaw Moor Cricket Club were pipped 5-4 at Sunderland side Park View and Sacriston Cricket Club outgunned Murton New Hesledon 5-1, with East Rainton victorious at Tow Law by the same score.
Durham Bede Lodge progressed 6-5 on penalties, following an epic 4-4 draw at Stanley Oxhill Central, as did Coxhoe Red Lion (after a 3-3 draw at Marsden CW), while Sherburn overwhelmed Hartlepool Raglan 13-1 and Brandon Sports Club eased home 5-1 at Peterlee Hearts.
Washington Cross Keys fought well to snatch a 2-1 victory at Chester Garden Farm RAR in the Castle Insurance Alan Smith Memorial Trophy, first round.
Garden Farm arguably had the better chances, and more of them, but Ryan Johnson fired home their only goal.
Ross Docherty and Philip Marriott notched to steer Cross Keys through, on the back of an outstanding display by star man goalkeeper Ian Brown.
Bailey Hunter shone for Farm.
There were also three second round ties.
Star man Daniel Summerbell (2), Mark Wild and Andrew Hope struck as West Rainton eased to a 4-1 home win over Bearpark.
Paul Green fired the visitors’ reply, with keeper Michael Crooks their man of the match.
Bearpark, with a depleted team, gave a good account of themselves.
Premier outfit Newton Aycliffe Locomotive defeated battling Gateshead Last Orders 6-3 - after falling two goals behind early on.
Jonny Graham’s strike in a one on one and a Masixole Moss volley had Last Orders in charge, but Lewis Martin and Danny McLachlan rallied the home side.
With the introduction of Corey Nicholson at half-time, Aycliffe hit four more to finish good winners, through a Nicholson hat-trick and a second from Martin.
Graham’s second goal was the visitors’ third. Steven Kyle was their star man.
Premier Division champions Pelton RAOB had to scrap very hard to see off Ferryhill Dynamos 3-2.
Ferryhill stunned the hosts by going 2-1 up in the second half thanks to Andrew Agar’s 30-yard volley, following up Vinny Gash’s earlier leveller.
But Pelton equalised and then won it late on.
Their scorers were Alex Peake, Dan Addison and sub David Latham, with midfielder Matthew Soulsby star man.
Jonathan Mason starred for Ferryhill.
Durham Rangers progressed from the League Cup second round in an extra-time thriller at Sacriston The Shoes.
Declan Waters, Luke Jury, Jonny Marshall and Callum Harland all netted as Rangers won through an entertaining tie by the odd goal in seven.
Man of the match Michael Nearby fired an excellent hat-trick to lead Chilton WMC home 5-0 in their tie at Ouston Juniors.
Stephen Clough and Kieran Harnett also notched, with Jack Dickinson the pick of the Ouston players.
In the only game in Division Four, newcomers Grange Villa edged home 1-0 in a very even match against Eppleton CC.
The only goal came on 72 minutes, scored by Villa’s David Smith. Darryl Laws was Grange Villa’s top performer.
Chester 18Seven Bar maintained their superb start to the season, walloping hosts High Handenhold Bird Inn 7-1 in a one-sided Division Two showdown.
Jordan Stevens, Michael McLean and Stephen Wood all weighed in with doubles in a one-sided clash, with man of the match Aaron Walker also on the scoresheet.
Bird held their own for 15 minutes, but went to pieces after they went behind to a penalty.
Jonathan Swift fired their consolation, with Tony Swift their top performer.
Framwellgate Moor WMC capitalised on a poor first-half display by hosts Pelaw Grange Dogs and eventually ran out 3-2 winners in Division One.
Star man Daniel Igo and Darryl Bell got Pelaw back to level in the second half, but Framwellgate stood firm to snatch a winner.
The visitors’ marksmen were man of the match Chris Pattinson, Nick Kitching and Sam Plant.
Hilda Park, newly-relegated from the Premier Division, enjoyed a great Chester-le-Street derby day, ruthlessly hammering Whitehills 4-0.
Star man Conor Henderson, two-goal Jamie Gordon and Craig Thompson did the damage.
Pittington rocked hosts Newton Hall Jovial Monk with a 3-1 triumph in Division Three.
Monk had strong early penalty claims waved away, and Pittington capitalised to go in front right on half-time, Jonny Scott scoring with the home side claiming offside.
Pittington played very well in the second half, passing the ball around a tired home team, and a fine move brought a crucial second goal for Scott.
David Wile breathed new life into Monk when he converted a penalty.
They felt hard done by when another spot-kick appeal was rejected, and goalkeeper Robert Berry was duly sent off for dissent.
Antony Waterson had to go in goal and Pittington’s Jonny Hosler netted with a brilliant free-kick to end the scoring at 3-1.
Adam Baister was Monk’s top man, with James Donaldson best for Pittington.
Hetton New Inn hit back from a goal down to draw 1-1 at Lumley Snooker Club.
Mick Carroll struck to give Lumley the lead, but they wasted a host of chances and star man Jordan Knox hauled the visitors level with a well-taken strike on the break.
Hetton had Lee Smith sent off. Carl Kalugarama stood out for the Snooker Club.

Sunday 28th August Demolition derby as Burnside send Houghton Chilton Lodge crashing out of Guards Cup

Demolition derby as Burnside send Houghton Chilton Lodge crashing out of Guards Cup

Burnside WMC demolished Houghton Chilton Lodge 8-2 to make good progress in the JD Taxis Guards Cup.
Burnside never really got out of second gear but were too good for their visitors.
Jon Jordison needed only two minutes to fire the opener, with Callum Munro and Craig Ellison making it 3-0.
Chilton Lodge reduced the deficit from a corner, but right-back Shaun Dixon’s second goal in successive games restored the three-goal advantage by the break.
Further strikes from Jordison, Munro, Robbie Richardson and an early goal of the season contender from Steven Macdonald sealed the deal in the second half.
Anth Armstrong and Andrew Bowes notched for Lodge, with Ian Davidson star man. Elliott Cutts shone for Burnside.
Ferryhill Community Hub took their chances to defeat Ouston Juniors 3-1.
Keeper Dean Halpin stood out for Hub with an accomplished performance, while Nathan Wall (2) and Philip Appleby also struck. Andy Robertson grabbed Ouston’s consolation, with Matthew Cornish their top man.
Quarrington Hill WMC suffered a second successive defeat to Witton Gilbert WMC, going down 3-2.
Just like in midweek, Quarrington Hill started better and took a deserved lead, but David Calcutt levelled from a stonewall penalty.
Scott Embleton and a great lob from Calcutt saw the visitors 3-1 up, and on the way to their first cup win since returning to the league.
A late penalty got Quarrington Hill back to 3-2.
Lumley booked their place in the second round thanks to a late extra time winner from skipper Scott Foster as they pipped Lambton Lions 3-2.
Lumley earlier led 2-0, through Ross Hughes and Jonny Cossar, only to be pegged back by brave Lions, who had star man Ben Goodwin and Liam Murray on target. Brett Russell shone for Lumley.
Scott Howe, Adam Goodyear and Michael Williamson notched as Chester Garden Farm RAR edged through 3-2 at Durham Rangers, who had Ryan Huntley and Jonny Marshall on target.
Keeper Aiden Jackson was outstanding for Rangers, with Bailey Hunter best for the visitors..
Bearpark WMC won through 5-2 in an entertaining tie at home to Bowburn.
Raymond Wilson and Gary Purvis set them on their way, only to be pegged back by a disputed Sean McGrailpenalty.
Further goals from Callum Wooler, Dylan Crooks and Purvis sealed Bearpark’s victory, with Paul Green star man. Stefan Middleton headed Bowburn back to 3-2 at one point..
Sacriston The Shoes were no match for hosts Gateshead Last Orders, who secured a 5-1 second round victory.
James Graham, Jonathan Graham, Jack Bell, Carl Mills and sub Alex Cannell all struck for Last Orders, with Steven Kyle star man.
Ushaw Moor Cricket Club just about deserved their scrappy 2-1 success at Pittington, with Scott Nattrass and Jamie Gregg on target. Jordan Wingfield was star man.
East Rainton revelled in hat-tricks from Lee Gaunt and James Wood as they eased to a 7-1 success at newcomers Grange Villa.
Levi Scott also got on the scoresheet, for the first time since returning to the club, while Olly Hotchkiss was the outstanding man of the match. Ben Jefferson replied for never-say-die Villa.
A dominant first-half performance set up Ferryhill Celtic’s comfortable 5-0 victory over Whitehills.
Celtic were four up at the break. Whitehills improved and only conceded due to an unfortunate own goal.
Marco Linhart, man of the match Dane Eltringham, Luke Thompson, Kevin Hodgson and sub Liam Pearson claimed Celtic’s goals.
Houghton Wild Boar All-Stars’ Rob Thompson came off the bench to bag a couple of goals for the second time this season, in a fine 5-1 cup win at Pelton Crown.
Houghton’s Nick Thompson scored the only goal of the first half, slotting the ball through the keeper’s legs after a fine one-two with Liam Lusk.
Rob Thompson netted goals two and three before Pelton’s Ryan Smith reduced the deficit.
But Wild Boar were the better side throughout and further goals from man of the match Liam McKitten and Liam Lusk made it 5-1. Connor Shaw shone for Crown.
Pelaw Grange Dogs comfortably defeated visitors Langley Park 3-0.
Star man Darryl Bell made the breakthrough before half-time, and two brilliant team goals finished off by Bri Allen completed the deal on the restart. Tony Rutter was Langley’s top performer.
Durham Buffaloes Head had yet another tough game against opposition from high up in the divisions, and First Division Washington Cross Keys ran out convincing 8-0 winners.
It was only 1-0 at the interval, with six goals in the final 20 minutes giving Keys a flattering margin of victory.
Aiden Herron and Simon Booth shone for Buffaloes.
Mark Wild had a day to savour, hitting four goals as West Rainton convincingly defeated near-neighbours Lumley Snooker Club 5-0.
Kieran Bowes also netted, with Graeme Brenkley star man.
Chester 18Seven Bar finished convincing 8-2 victors at Dubmire WMC.
Jordan Stevens led the way with a treble, supported by strikes from Michael McLean, star man Danny Maughan, Stephen Wood, Allen Robson and David Tyson.
Hilda Park enjoyed an Aaron Sheriff hat-trick as they overwhelmed hosts Coxhoe Red Lion 9-2.
Jonathan Yip and Stephen Clifford added doubles, with Craig Thompson and Simon Heath also on the scoresheet. Keeper Tom Orton shone for Lion, with Jordan Stannard and Adam Strong firing consolations.
Coxhoe Red Lion 2 - 9 Hilda Park FC
This cup game may not have gone ahead due to the lack of lines on the pitch. It’s hard enough for an official in Sunday League Football at the best of times but the demise of all markings only compounded the issue. With the help of cones to determine the corners of the boxes etc. the referee – Colin Piggott agreed to give it a go.
It wasn’t until the 30th minute that we edged ahead with a Stephen Clifford right foot shot from a Jamie Gordon foray down the flank. An own goal from a Johnny Yip shot 5 minutes before the interval doubled our lead in what was a cagey first half. We contended with every long ball the home side threw at us as this seemed to be their main route of attack. In return we built our play up from back to front with possession football that allowed our wingers to delve behind the Coxhoe rear guard.

If it took a while to break the water first half, we certainly smashed the dam wall the second. With 7 goals and a good few near misses we put this cup tie to bed with ease.

If the midfield were by-passed a little in the first period they certainly came into the game in the second with Aaron Sherriff grabbing his first hat trick of the season. His first two goals were quality left footed shots that gave their keeper little chance and his third was tucked away neatly from the spot.
Johnny Yip provided the most spectacular looking goal to make it 6 when he dived full length, Ninja like, to power his header home and strain the pegs on the net.

Craig Thompson got in on the act for the second time this season but unlike his 1st a few weeks ago that was a powerful 38 yarder, today’s had a different degree of difficulty as he curled it in from the corner spot.
Stephen Clifford maintained his tremendous start to the season with yet another left foot strike to give him his brace and I think this takes his tally to 8 in all competitions (he’ll correct me if I’m wrong).

The final say went to substitute Simon Heath as he did brilliantly to side foot home Jamie Gordons cross that bounced up as it got to him.
We did concede 2 goals in the 57th and 83rd but this wasn’t to dent the display we put on in damp, slippery conditions. Matty Forster made his final appearance for a while as work takes him away South. He has been a real live wire down the right wing with his pace and strength and will be a huge miss.

A triple substitution in the 57th minute gave all the squad a run out.
To sum up, we defended heroically 1st half when Coxhoe were at their strongest and gradually got a foothold in the game. Then when the home side began to falter we stepped up and took the match beyond their reach.
Houghton Town made it two wins out of three in the Premier Division, thanks to a 6-1 romp at Chilton WMC.
Houghton led at the break, despite Chilton creating some good chances, but two quickfire second-half goals killed off the home side.
Lee McBeth ended up with a clinical hat-trick to inspire Town, with Dan McGuire, sub James Davidson and Kieran Days also netting. Ross Galley was star man
Steven Ferguson scored an excellent individual goal for Chilton’s consolation.
Top-flight newcomers Waldridge Park were beaten 6-2 by visitors Newton Aycliffe Locomotion.
Yet they were 2-0 up in the first half thanks to two well-worked Adam Campbell Bell strikes. Aycliffe rallied to level by the break, then took control on the restart.
Corey Nicholson bagged a treble, supporting efforts from star man Sonny Andrews, Lewis Martin and an own goal.
Brandon Sports Club secured their first league win, beating Sacriston WMC 3-0.
Steven Parnaby opened the scoring from a free-kick before the break, then doubled the lead with a header from an excellent Michael Fort cross.

Brandon Sports Club

Substitute Olly Graham sealed the win in added time. Sacriston were denied a way back by resolute defending and inspired goalkeeping from Steven McIntyre.
Pelton RAOB drew 1-1 with Sedgefield St Edmund’s.
The champions led at half-time, but depleted Saints battled back to level through Stephen Flockett eight minutes from time.
Man of the match Lewis Coburn’s brace, supported by efforts from Ian Field and Wayne Gardiner, led Framwellgate Moor WMC home 4-0 against New Brancepeth WMC in Division One. Omar Moustafa stood out for Brancepeth.
Hetton New Inn outgunned Newton Hall Jovial Monk 5-1 in the only game in Division Three.
Bradley Bowman came off the bench to bag a double, backing strikes from star man Jordan Hay, Gary Headon and Keith Finch.
Durham County finished 5-2 victors at home to Bishop Middleham in the Second Division. Alex Hird (2), Robson Brown, Joe Jenkinson and Bradley Hird all notched, with Alex Brown star man. David Redfern and man of the match Philip Best responded.

Middleham rued the hosts’ disputed penalty opener on the 3G pitch.
