Six-of-the-best Haddock batters Monk

LUMLEY Snooker Club were good 7-1 victors at Newton Hall Jovial Monk in Division Four, with Ben Haddock enjoying a memorable day with a six-goal haul.

Haddock gave Lumley the lead early on and he went on to secure a first-half hat-trick as the visitors stormed 3-0 ahead.

Haddock added another treble in the second period to pile on the misery for Jovial Monk, with Dan Young also on target.

A poacher’s finish from Liam Oudnie got the Newton Hall side on the scoresheet.

Houghton survived an onslaught from Fencehouses in the first 40 minutes of their derby, before going on to record a 4-0 victory.

Houghton were dangerous on the break throughout and grabbed two goals in the first half, Levi Scott netting with a powerful volley from the edge of the box and Lee McBeth converting a penalty after Anthony Eley was brought down.

Houghton dominated the second half and wrapped the game up with further goals from subs Grant Strong and Michael Carroll in the space of four minutes.

Kriss Jobbing starred for Fencehouses.

Quarrington Hill WMC comfortably won 3-0 at Witton Gilbert Travellers Rest, never looking back after taking the lead.

The hosts, with Matthew Richardson star man, had a few spells of getting forward but were unable to make the most of their opportunities.

High Shincliffe Avenue revelled in doubles from Craig Browne and star man Mark Jacob as they outgunned Bowburn 5-3. Leon Brooks also scored, while fellow sub Michael Robson was sent off.

Washington Jays won 4-0 at lowly Durham Federation, whose star man was Ben Pearson. Two-goal Karl Graham, Wes Moat and Dan Robson steered Jays home.

Houghton Comrades romped to an 8-0 Premier Division success at Coxhoe WMC.

Hat-tricks from Matty Weirs and Kyle Davis did most of the damage, backed by Gary Davison and sub Gary Thompson.

David Vincent ran the show for Comrades, with Ross Roberts best for Coxhoe.

Hetton Lyons Cricket Club eased to a 3-1 home win over Newton Aycliffe WMC to maintain their title push.

Robbie Bird needed only four minutes to make the breakthrough, with Conor Winter and a magnificent 20-yarder from Craig Ellison making it three by the half hour.

Hilda Park, down to the bare bones with only 11 men available, led early on, when Chris Watson finished off a great move.

But Sedgefield St Edmund’s roared back to win 3-2 thanks to two Joe Peel headers and a Martyn Musgrave strike direct from a corner. Chris Cuthbertson responded late on.

Chilton WMC regained top spot in Division One, beating title rivals Chester Britannia 2-0. Man of the match David Harrison made the breakthrough and an own goal after pressure from a Chilton corner sealed Britannia’s fate, although they have two games in hand and are only two points behind Chilton.

Ouston Cherry Tree crushed Chester Red Lion 7-1 to all but secure their survival.

Good goalkeeping from Lion’s Chris Howard kept the scoreline at 1-1 at half-time, with Andrew Clarkson cancelling out Paul Corlett’s opener for the visitors.

It remained level until the final 25 minutes, when Ouston went through the gears to hit six unanswered goals. Michael Ross grabbed an eight-minute hat-trick, then pulled the ball back for a luckless defender to concede an own goal, while Clarkson and captain Mark Bailes rounded off the scoring.

Pelaw Grange Dogs edged home 1-0 at Ushaw Moor Cricket Club, thanks to a strike from Michael Mclean, who side footed home Barrass’s 79th-minute cross.

David Jeffers, who had an effort saved on the line, starred for Pelaw, who fielded a scratch side due to late call-offs, with Michael Abson best for Ushaw Moor.

That defeat saw the cricketers slump into the bottom two, as Houghton Chilton Lodge produced an impressive 4-2 win at Washington Cross Keys.

Keys had keeper Ian Brown sent off, while Craig Smith and star man Darren Green grabbed their goals.

In Division Two, Waldridge Park stepped up their promotion charge by winning 2-0 at hard-working Dubmire WMC to go top.

Waldridge’s pressure eventually paid of when Chris Days climbed higher than the keeper to head A high ball into the net.

Dubmire defended well, but the second goal eventually arrived, with winger Steve McDonald’s shot only parried by the keeper into the net. Daniel Barrass starred for Park.

Whitehills dropped from top spot after losing 2-1 in a huge game at third-placed Durham County Seniors. It was a tense, scrappy match, with few chances created. Craig Hilton struck in vain for Whitehills, whose star man was Stephen Fisher.

West Rainton consolidated fourth place with a dominant display in a 4-1 success against Langley Park Rams Head. Daniel Hamilton notched for Rams, with Graeme Brenkley (3) and Ian Brown on target for the hosts, whose star man was Chris Brown.

Title favourites Pelton Crown moved within five points of long-time Third Division leaders Washington Cricket Club thanks to a hard-earned 1-0 victory over Lumley.

Rejuvenated Lumley gave Pelton arguably their toughest game of the campaign so far, but Mark Foster’s second-half penalty sealed the points. Michael Hoyle starred.

Framwellgate Moor WMC edged a 1-0 derby triumph at Bede Lodge SC in a close game which could have gone either way.

Mark Foster grabbed the only goal, though Moor’s hero was keeper James Rutherford. Jamie Bennett stood out for Bede. Fram’s Steven Kitching was sent off.

Esh Winning Cricket Club outgunned bottom club Belmont The Shoes 7-3.

Jonathan Hodgson led the way with a clinical hat-trick, added to by Michael Oughton (2), Dean Taylor and Kevin Todd.

Ferryhill Community Hub cruised to a 5-1 success at Hetton New Inn. New Inn never got into the game, though they had a few near misses. Chris O’Hara (2), Neil Birbeck, Dan Gilyeat and sub Shaun Meek did the damage.

Ferryhill Celtic showed their class in a 6-0 demolition of Pittington.

Coates cracker seals cup final place

SACRISTON Cricket Club clinched their place in the Heart Foundation Trophy final, edging past Peterlee Sunday League outfit Shotton Comrades 1-0 after extra time.

Comrades goalkeeper Phil Murphy produced a number of truly magnificent saves to keep his side level until Craig Coates hit a wonderful winner.

The goal came on 100 minutes when Gary Draper played a fantastic ball through to Coates, who instantly controlled the ball before taking it nearer the goal and, as the Shotton keeper advanced, cleverly chipped the ball over him with the inside of his left foot and into the net.
