Durham Sunday League: Hutcheon, Corner at the double as there’s no stopping Wild Boar

Houghton Wild Boar All-Stars won their third preliminary round game to reach the last 64 of the Durham County Sunday Cup.

They secured an excellent 5-2 success at Stanley Oxhill, after going behind on the half hour.

Shaun Corner and Craig Fletcher replied to give Boar a 2-1 half-time lead, and they were much the better side in the second half, with substitute Chris Hutcheon’s brace making it 4-1. Oxhill then had their skipper sent off for a tackle on Karl Anderson, and Boar made them pay with a fifth from Corner before the hosts netted a last-gasp consolation goal. Boar next host Norton George & Dragon.

Lee Blades fired a hat-trick as Brandon Sports Club beat Shildon Elm Road WMC 5-2, with David Fort and Parnaby also netting.

Houghton Town exited the Stonebridge Inn League Cup with a single-goal third round defeat at Sacriston Cricket Club.

Michael Frazer’s goal separated the sides in a very entertaining tie, but Sacriston hit the bar three times and Houghton had one cleared off the line. Jack Brennan starred for Sacriston.

Pelton Crown edged home 3-2 in a cracker against Whitehills.

Pelton stormed two ahead at half-time, thanks to Liam Mitchell and Kris Lawton, but Whitehills impressed on the restart and they drew level with 20 minutes to go. Scott Simpson, though, fired a late winner for Crown.

Premier side Pelton RAOB fended out battling Ferryhill Celtic 2-0 to goals late in each half from Craig Mickle and Chris Winn, with Anthony Grant-Soulsby starring.

In the Stepy’s Coaches President’s Trophy, Lumley Snooker Club used their pace out wide to good effect as they outgunned Ushaw Moor Cricket Club 5-1.

Anthony Jones, with a hat-trick which included a memorable overhead kick, Ralph Watson and James Laidler struck, with Paul Taylor responding. Visiting keeper Michael Watson did well to keep the score down.

Bishop Middleham outgunned Bearpark WMC, who produced a spirited performance and could feel that the 7-2 scoreline harsh on their efforts.

Ian Brabon, who chested down and lashed home from 18 yards, and Philip Best, whose best goal was a screamer into the top corner, both plundered doubles for Bishop, with Adam Partington, Stephen Parnaby and Callum Bramwell also on target.

Bearpark keeper Jed Collins made a string of fabulous saves and saw Craig Bennett draw his side level at 1-1, with Kieran Purvis their other marksman.

Newton Hall Jovial Monk finished good 6-2 winners against Kelloe WMC, after trailing to a 20-yard opener against a side from two divisions higher.

Carl Sanderson and Kadam Lumsden-Parnaby notched for Kelloe early in each half, but Matthew Williams’ well-taken treble, backed by David Wile (2) and Graham Thompson, steered Monk home to a deserved win. Keeper Michael Graham starred for Kelloe, with Adam Baister best for Monk.

Durham County snatched a 2-1 Third Division victory in a tight clash at Houghton.

Craig Mountain’s heavily deflected free-kick had County ahead at the break, and he doubled the lead from another set-piece 20 minutes from time. Sub Declan Dresser pulled one back, but an equaliser eluded Houghton, whose star performer was Levi Scott.

Hetton New Inn were beaten 3-1 at Sedgefield SC in a game which could have gone the other way but for an inspirational display by home keeper Lee Peat.

Sub John Beardmore scored for New Inn, who had Kieron Hartill as star man. Michael Smith was sent off.

Quarrington Hill WMC were crushed 5-1 by visitors Washington Jays, whose quality shone through.

Adam Hill (2), Karl Graham, Reece Wanless and Ally Whitcombe did the damage, with a header from a 50-yard ball into the box giving the hosts a consolationm=.

Chester-le-Street AFC enjoyed a fine 4-2 victory at Dubmire WMC.

Miller Fletcher deservedly gave the visitors the lead, and new boy Elliot Rimington doubled the lead, latching onto a clever flick by Andy Graham.

James Thompson had a majestic overhead kick strike disallowed for offside before Dubmire rallied with a superb 25-yard strike, but Fletcher soon restored the two-goal advantage.

Dubmire got back to 3-2, heading in a corner, but their push for a leveller failed and Fletcher fired a late penalty to seal the win, and his hat-trick. Keeper Daniel Peterkin starred as Chester defied the hosts.

In Division Two, Bede Lodge SC pipped neighbours Framwellgate Moor WMC in a 3-2 thriller, though they rued missed chances which could have ensured a more comfortable win.

Jonathan Hodgson’s opener was cancelled out, but Dan Mann’s excellent strike regained the lead. Fram, whose marksmen were James Smith and Adam Kitching, equalised again, but Hodgson’s second won it late on.

Sean Richardson and Delf Tristan were the respective star men.

In the Premier Division, Chester Britannia were clinical in attack and resilient in defence as they secured a 3-1 win over Pelaw Grange Dogs, who failed to make the most of their possession. Jordan Steven hit the visitors’ consolation.

Sedgefield St Edmund’s edged a 2-1 win over old rivals Newton Aycliffe WMC.

Dan Newby’s penalty, after Kevin Hodgson was felled, and Scott Brassell’s bizarre own goal from 45 yards had Saints two up before Sonny Andrews replied direct from a corner. Aycliffe, beaten for the first time, had Corey Nicholson sent off.

In Division One, Waldridge Park cruised to a 6-1 derby rout of Chester Park Inn.

Niki Robson set up Chris Days’ Waldridge opener, then Adam Campbell Bell struck, from Jamie Taylor’s pass. Mark Chambers added a third from left-back before Days showed good skills in the box to make it 4-0.

Bell finished well from Alex Ludlow’s measured pass before Park Inn replied, but Matty Agar headed in a sixth in a pacy move.

Durham County Seniors rallied from two goals down, with Liam Milburn sent off, to beat West Rainton 4-3.

Rainton capitalised on a goalkeeping error to go 3-1 up against the run of play in the second half, but star man Joshua Gregory’s well-taken hat-trick and a Mark Hughes strike edged Seniors home.

Eppleton Cricket Club continued their Fourth Division promotion push, winning 4-0 at Durham Buffaloes Head, although a tight first half showed no signs of the big winning margin.

Much-improved Buffaloes, with Sam Morris starring, made life tough for Eppleton, but they took control in the second half as sub Luke Atkinson scored twice, with Charles Ord and Keith Scott also on target.

Witton Gilbert Travellers Rest lost 4-3 to Ouston Juniors in an entertaining clash.

Scott Bradley’s magnificent volley had Witton ahead, but Cal Winship’s thunderous free-kick and a superb solo effort from Matty Cornish turned the game around by the break.

Winship scored again from 20 yards, then Neil Worley made it 4-1 with a clever finish over the advancing keeper. Witton kept battling and sub Daniel Cooke pulled two goals back, but the visitors held on.

Lumley led 2-1 but were eventually beaten 3-2 by visitors Bowburn in a topsy-turvy clash.

Lee Jennings’ deft header, from a Luke Elves cross, had Bowburn on top, but Scott Irwin levelled, then Dan Melvin headed Lumley in front. Andrew Dunn’s 20-yard left-footer equalised on 78 minutes, then Edward Carr slotted home Daniel Crisp’s 30-yard pass for a late winner.
